In the digital age, print media remains synonymous with reliable, high-quality media that produces meaningful content, reaching diverse groups of society across different regions of Lithuania. Its historical significance serves as a reminder of how hard people fought for the right to live in an independent Lithuania and speak their own language.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Funding from the Media Support Fund helps to ensure the quality and diversity of the print media by supporting both projects aimed at a broad audience and niche or investigative projects, which publishers,\u00a0operating\u00a0solely under market conditions, would often be unable to sustain.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Funding for the print media constitutes a significant part of the Fund\u2019s budget.\u00a0Taking into account\u00a0funding for projects, editorial activities and grants, a total of \u20ac3,629,437 was\u00a0allocated\u00a0to print media in 2025 \u2013 this accounts for approximately 37 per cent of the Fund\u2019s total budget\u00a0allocated\u00a0for 2025. Print media is the media format receiving the most funding from the Fund compared to other media. Funding was\u00a0allocated\u00a0to 110 unique publications, published by 97 publishers.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2025, 102 print projects were funded across four sub-programmes, with a total of \u20ac1,821,722\u00a0allocated\u00a0to them. Print projects accounted for around 39 per cent of all funded projects, and the amount\u00a0allocated\u00a0to them represented around 24 per cent of the total funding for projects.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Funding for editorial offices is a particularly important measure contributing to their preservation and strengthening. The activities of 56 editorial offices were funded across three\u00a0programmes, with a total of \u20ac1,801,715\u00a0allocated\u00a0to them. The largest share went to the editorial offices of regional publications \u2013 41 editorial offices were funded, with \u20ac1,231,354\u00a0allocated\u00a0to them. In total, print editorial offices accounted for around two-thirds of all editorial offices funded by the Fund, and were\u00a0allocated\u00a0slightly more than 80 per cent of the total budget for editorial office activities. Since funding for editorial offices began in 2024, there has been an increase in the number of creative staff at these offices \u2013 in the cultural media, this\u00a0figure has risen by more than a third.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
