On 10 December, Ruslanas Iržikevičius, Director of the Media Support Fund, participated in a conference organised by the Lithuanian Journalists’ Union entitled “Journalists in times of crisis: how the media operates when networks are disrupted”.
During the event, discussions were held on how prepared the Lithuanian media is for a crisis. What would journalists do if the internet and electricity disappeared? Questions were also raised about how journalists would reach the public during the first 72 hours. Is there a plan in place for the private Lithuanian media? Do journalists working in private media know what to do first in the event of a crisis?
In 2023, following the approval of the National Agenda for the Implementation of the Civil Resistance Strategy, non-governmental organisations and interested public groups were invited to join the plan. The second phase of the plan is expected to begin in 2026. During the event, insights were shared on what the journalistic community should know about this and how to participate.
The conference was also attended by: Audrys Antanaitis, Chairman of the Lithuanian Journalists’ Union; Ernest Alesin, Head of the Lithuanian Media in National Communities; Vaiva Žukienė, Chairwoman of the Public Information Ethics Association; Dainius Radzevičius, Inspector of Journalist Ethics; Col. Danas Mockūnas, Commander of the Lithuanian Army Military Commandant’s Office; Deividas Velkas, representative of the Ministry of Culture of Lithuania, representatives of the National Association of Regional and Local Newspaper Publishers, the Internet Media Association, the Association of Municipalities, the Association of Regional Radio Stations, the Radio and Television Association, internet portals, radio stations, and newspaper editorial offices. The event was held under the patronage of Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė.
