The Media Support Fund (MRF) is proud of its friendship with the Centre for Media Studies at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga (SSE Riga). We value the work of our friends in strengthening independent media and investigative journalism, and we are therefore delighted to support their initiative, the Peter Greste Baltic Freedom of Speech Award.
We encourage our friends, partners and the wider Lithuanian media community to take part by submitting nominations and sharing this call with others who may know deserving candidates.
The Peter Greste Baltic Freedom of Speech Award recognizes organizations and individuals for significant contributions to the protection and promotion of freedom of speech in the Baltic states. The award was first presented in Latvia in 2017. The deadline for nominations is 22 October.
This year, four laureates will be selected: one from each of the three Baltic states and one additional laureate from the Baltic diaspora community. Nominees may be individuals or organizations that have made a significant contribution to protecting or advancing freedom of speech in one of the Baltic states. The jury consists of journalists and representatives of human rights organizations from across the Baltic region and is chaired by Peter Greste.
The award ceremony will take place on 5 November at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, bringing together journalists, human rights defenders and public opinion leaders from across the Baltic states. This year’s laureates will be announced during the ceremony, and the programme will include an address by Peter Greste on the current challenges facing press freedom.
The Media Support Fund is delighted to support this initiative and encourages Lithuania’s media community to take part by nominating individuals and organizations whose efforts to defend freedom of speech in the Baltics deserve recognition.
