On 26 September, members of the Media Support Fund team participated in the international Romo Sakadolskio Journalism Forum. The annual event, which brought together journalism professionals, researchers and students, analysed the state of journalism in Lithuania and around the world, and presented awards. The event addressed topics of particular relevance to the Fund, including regional media and journalistic ethics.
The discussion “Kritę regione” (Fallen in the Region), dedicated to regional media, focused on the role and significance of regional media in fostering important discussions within the local community and in attracting young people to editorial offices. The participants emphasised that the Media Support Fund’s support for editorial activities and projects significantly contributes to the stability and success of editorial offices. They also welcomed the fact that the Fund’s current model for its activities is based on pre-approved funding rules and that projects are evaluated by independent experts.
The discussion “What makes a journalist?” focused on the training of young journalists, emphasising the importance of knowledge, skills and principles for professional success. Vaiva Žukienė, chair of the Fund’s board, who participated in the discussion, emphasised the importance of ethical media in contemporary society.
Romas Sakadolskis was a Lithuanian and US journalist, a long-time correspondent for the radio station “Voice of America” and head of the Lithuanian editorial office. He participated in all the most important events of Lithuania’s regaining of independence and told listeners about them.
