7 May is a special day for Lithuanian identity. Although it was on this day in 1904 that we were freed from the ban on the Lithuanian press, this date also reminds us of a challenging period in Lithuanian history, lasting four decades, when the Russian tsarist regime banned the essential symbols of our national identity – the Lithuanian press, book publishing and freedom of speech.
The Media Support Fund congratulates you on Press, Language and Book Day! Let us cherish the Lithuanian language!
